SYNOPSIS -

Loving him could destroy her…

High school teacher Cilla Stevens has always been different, especially in how she connects with animals. When she calms a stray dog during an incident at school, she’s asked to help a nearby farm with a difficult horse.

Cameron Rahl has had a very different relationship with animals since his mother died in a horse riding accident. But now he's inherited his family’s farm, he's determined to never let anyone affect him that way again.

Until he meets Cilla. He tries to stay away from the gorgeous horse whisperer with the potential to tame him, but something keeps pulling him close. And as much as Cilla tells herself she can keep it casual, she knows they're too connected to be 'just a fling.'

Will Cilla's heart win out? Or will it take history repeating itself for Cameron to realise just how much he needs her?

This isn't the normal type of book I'd read, although I am a horse lover, but I wanted to give it a go, as it looked a light hearted read, and I wanted a break from my usual crime novels.

I was enchanted by this book, set in South Africa, and got so I couldn't put it down. It led you on a series of emotions including "Wonderment", in the way Cilla could speak to horses and how she connected with them, and they with her and "Frustration" with Cilla and Cameron as they appeared to have a real dislike to each other but something was smoldering underneath. I got frustrated at times with Cameron but that just added to the story itself, and I think the author meant you to feel that way.

I loved the way that the author managed to merge the story of the connection with horses, and the relationships between all the characters. The story flowed well and I felt a real connection with the characters themselves. This is a quick and cosy read and one that is perfect to curl up with.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Taken from her blog (Tea with Elsa

"I have been reading love stories for as long as I can remember and when I ‘met’ the classic authors like Jane Austen, Elizabeth Gaskell, Henry James The Brontë sisters, etc. during my studies, I was hooked for life.
I married my college boyfriend and soul mate and after 38 years, 3 beautiful children and three grandchildren, he still makes me weak in the knees. We are fortunate to live in the picturesque little seaside village of Betty’s Bay, South Africa with the ocean a block away and a beautiful mountain right behind us.
And although life so far has not always been an easy ride, it has always been an exiting and interesting one!
I like the heroines in my stories to be beautiful, feisty, independent and headstrong.  And the heroes must be strong but possess a generous amount of sensitivity. They are of course, also gorgeous!  My stories typically incorporate the family background of the characters to better understand where they come from and who they are when we meet them in the story.
I was fortunate to win the best romance award for an Afrikaans story  in 2010 and again in 2014".

MY REVIEW

What a wonderful read this was. I'm not quite sure what I was expecting from it, but it surpassed my expectations.

It tells the tale of Vicky who's parents run a smallholding and she has a horse called "Red". One day something magical happens to Red but I'll say no more otherwise it will spoil the story.

All I can say is that it is a well written book which takes it's young reader through many periods of history. This book is centered in London for the magical adventures. One minute they are in the swinging sixties, next minute in the Second World War. You can be in Elizabethan England one minute and in the slums, or you could be mixing with Queen Victoria. The reader will read about many famous figures in British History so they are being educated at the same time as joining Vicky and her friends on the magical journeys she takes with Red.

The author seems to have put a lot of thought into this book and it has really paid off. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to any parent to purchase for their child. I can't wait to read the next adventures in the series and see where the adventures take us then.

REVIEWS

P J Flynn’s books have had some great reviews, and has readers in over 20 countries worldwide.

I want to share with everyone the absolute pleasure my family and I had reading In The Land Of The Unicorn and Tales of the Wildcat, by P J Flynn.
Tales of a wildcat is an amazing and wonderful exploration taken with Jasper - the wildcat. My grandchildren and I enthusiastically followed along with Jasper as he roamed about, met new friends and had many new experiences. If you like cats you will very much enjoy seeing the world through Jasper's eyes and after reading it you will never look at your own cat quite the same again! This book was a fun adventure for all ages, I highly recommend it.
In The Land Of The Unicorn is a fantastical journey through historic times and awesome locations. The children loved this book as it vividly and intelligently touched on many different stories they have heard about, it opened their minds and thus opened within them a curiosity about these historic characters and a want to learn even more about them all.  We look forward to enjoying many more journeys in the future, and secretly hope for an animated feature film, as this would be a fantastic story to tell on a big screen too! I think this series would be an excellent addition to schools and libraries for story time or in any children’s bookshelf to be read over and over again. I have no doubt you and your children will adore this book as much as we did.
Thank you for the wonderful adventures Peter!! Loretta Blondo and family, Alberta Canada.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Until 10 years ago the author, from Northamptonshire, England, worked as a plasterer but two serious operations gave him the opportunity to pursue a challenge he never thought possible.
With the help of numerous friends and family members the dream of writing a book became a reality.
He was encouraged by teachers when he first began writing. Teaching history suddenly became easier because the children began asking questions about the events and people they were introduced to through his books.  As one Head teacher put it, "They seemed inspired to learn more about history. It was no longer something they had to put up with. Their thirst for knowledge almost became unquenchable!"
The author doesn't just delve into ancient history; his characters visit the 'swinging sixties', The Second World War London, The Roman occupation, Victorian times, Elizabethan times and historical legends.  He introduces children to the times of their parents and grandparents as well as stories and events that molded our country. His growing army of readers' constantly write to him asking when another adventure book will be published and where it will take them.
